One of this site's regular commenters is a Korean War vet named Walter. Posting will remain light, but I wanted to put something up on the front page which he originally left in the comments. The War on Terror has been going on for a long time--America may have come a little late to the fight, but we're in it now.
July 4, 1976 the final collapse of freedom in South Vietnam was well under way as the 200th birthday of the United States dawned. It was a sad day, freedom was in full defeat through the world.
For freedom lovers everywhere, one bright spot was unfolding. In Entebbe, Uganda, Israeli Lt Col. Yonatan Netanyahu led a force that freed a planeload of hostages from sure execution by Palestinian terrorists. In a plan audacious in its planning and heroic in execution, the hostages were rescued and extracted to freedom. 2 hostages died during the assault, and Col. Netanyahu was a final casualty.
When news of the rescue came out, I was heartened with the news that the whole world had not reverted to craven poltroonery. There were brave men with brave governments still around. Just not, temporarily, here at home.
Thanks, Johnny

Lest any enemy of the United States--external or otherwise--ever think otherwise, we're still willing to fight for our independence today over 225 years later.
