Phil of
Shades of Gray lost his father recently.
His post discussing the tragedy and how he's handled it is quite moving. I think anyone who has ever lost a loved one will be able to relate.
The Good Book says, "Death, where is thy sting?" Indeed, where is it? For the Lord sacrificed for us, "dying, He destroyed death, and rising He restored our life," as they say in Mass. So, where is the sting of death?
In the eyes. The sting remains in the eyes, and causes them to shed oceans of tears. Yes, death's sting, for the whole of God's children, is gone. But we on earth have not eyes to see it, and so the sting remains there. Remains there always, until we face the inevitable ourselves, and, in faith and hope, will see with eyes that lack death's sting. But that time seems so far away now, and the sting in the eyes of the living remains powerful.
