The Fine Art of Contradicting Yourself in One Sentence
Written by: Dave

The West continues to perfect the art of completely contradicting itself within the space of a single sentence.

An excellent example from our Spanish NATO Allies:

"On Iran, there was unanimity," Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos told reporters. "Although the clear message to the Iranian authorities is one of firmness, we have to continue with the diplomatic path." (italics added)

And we're surpised that Iran doesn't take the West seriously?

Our Judeo-Christian Heritage

A very interesting debate on the importance of religion in the West.

Check out the comments for an especially inciteful comment by a fellow named Dave.

A Few Quick Thoughts
Written by: Speculator

1) The French Riots are fascinating.

They may very well be a signature of stressed globalization.

These dissenters seem to have amalgamated into an alliance of young people furious with the transfer of burden to themselves; large and growing budget deficits, destruction to the environment; large and growing future payments – and a disproportionate amount of the cost of actual globalization allocated to them – e.g. risks within the initial employment – i.e. it's very difficult to initially establish oneself effectively, owing to all sorts of systematic risk like shitty first boss.

2) New Orleans is done. It is a function of MASSIVE government purchases of levees since 1927 (the devastating loss following the massive flooding from the Mississippi flood) that have failed due to pollution and then Katrina. Katrina appears to be the equivalent of at least 70 years of current pollution. It is absolutely done. No one will offer insurance – not a single name.

3) Federalism: How can it answer the need for Federal influence in the investment of infrastructure? The use of Long Term Bonds (30 YEARS MOTHERFUCKER) is used by every "functioning" economy in the world, save the United States. It is a fascinating borrowing – it bets against current opportunity, and perhaps current subsistence, and knowing that success is guaranteed, pays back that opportunity through a functioning economy that is self-sustaining and self-expanding. This means we must commit to a satisfactory level of investment in public schools – it will never appear cost-effective in the measurement of contemporary metrics: net operating profit, return on equity – for the functional measurement of a cared-for child and the deficit of the "prudent invest-ee" requires 10 years to understand. Invest in the kids – we can do it intelligently, but this requires us to understand that public dollars invested in this endeavor will not yield traditional returns.
