...and
the lack thereof.
Enron traders openly discussed manipulating the California power market and joked about stealing from grandmothers during the Western energy crisis in 2000-2001, according to transcripts of telephone calls filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
The transcripts, some littered with profanity, were filed by a public utility district near Seattle.
I always hoped someone (CFTC, SEC, FERC, &c., &c.) would pull tapes on me. Having never done anything illegal (i.e. since I didn't work at Enron), I would have succeeded in my lifelong quest to force government bureaucrats to listen to hours and hours of me being an assclown over the phone. I can just imagine the deposition questions... "Now, would you please explain to us, for the record, what exactly you meant when discussing handing out 'Bad At Math Awards' to other traders?" "Think of it as a Pulitzer Prize for stupid people who get paid too much for doing something they suck at."
I hope that wasn't too "inside baseball" for you Roach.
