RNC - Day 3 Part 6 - Mitt Romney edition
Written by: Beck
Romney is considered to be one of the potential contenders for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.
Uh... Romney just spoke of Kerry's "nearly 40 years since Vietnam." That's some serious rounding up there. Romney immediately opened with attacks on Kerry's record as a pro-tax liberal in the Senate. "And Senator Edwards, if you don't like that, sue me!"
He's spoofing the "Send Kerry" routine from the DNC. "If you believe in raising taxes, by all means, send in Kerry." etc.
Ye gads. He just made a ketchup joke. "This nation can't afford a president who comes in 57 different varieties." I've officially lost all interest in Romney's potential for the 2008 nomination.
That, and I think he just made a pro-protectionist statement. Hard to really tell since it's all just pleasant-sounding rhetoric, but it's the kind of thing that makes me immediately suspicious.
Update: He's on a "we step forward" jag. Evidently we step forward when we have family values, hold schools accountable, and remember Reagan's legacy (compassion and fiscal conservativeness according to Romney).
To be honest, the speech was a pretty good one. His style and delivery are excellent. There's just something about him that entirely fails to endear me to him.
