Some people think that China poses no threat to Taiwan, but China seems differ, recently
courting Russian advice on how to conduct amphibious landings. These
comments on the BBC offer a view commonly seen, that Taiwan has always belonged to China and should accept that. Several of them even claim that the Chinese government has an obligation to govern _any_ place that ethnic chinese live. That Taiwan was not
historically a part of China isn't taken seriously because it means standing up to China.
