This from CNN's latest reporting on Moussaoui's trial:
CNN security analyst Peter Bergen said Moussaoui was a would-be terrorist who at
most was on al Qaeda's fringe. He doubted that the plot's true masterminds --
Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and Ramzi Binalshibh -- will be brought to justice.
"It was their idea, their execution -- they're in American custody, and
I don't think they're ever going to see the inside of an American courtroom,"
Bergen said
So let me get this straight, even though Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and Ramzi Binalshibh are in American custody, they won't be "brought to justice" until they go through a long media circus trial where they get a million opportunities to denounce the U.S. and then escape the death penalty because of a tough childhood.
It's quite amazing to me, and quite scary I might add, that this reporter's conception of justice is entirely limited to the confines of a civilian court decision. I am afraid that many in our elite share this view, and it is emblematic of the disconnect between their starry-eyed conception of reality and the harsher realities of the wider world.
